Around this time consideration began of mergers with two colleges of education in Bangor: St Mary’s College, a college for women studying to become schoolteachers, and the larger and older Normal College/Coleg Normal. The merger of St Mary’s into UCNW was concluded in 1977, but the merger with Coleg Normal fell through in the 1970s and was not completed until 1996.
